Read moreClimate Smart Agriculture (CSA) and agro-ecological farming are important for Bhutan since Bhutan is highly vulnerable to the impacts of climate change, including erratic weather patterns, changing precipitation, and increased frequency of natural disasters such as floods and landslides. CSA practices can help in adapting to these changes by promoting resilience and sustainability in agriculture while agro-ecological farming practices promote conservation of biodiversity by using sustainable and environmentally-friendly farming methods that minimize harm to ecosystems. Overall, Climate Smart Agriculture and agro-ecological farming are essential for the sustainable development of Bhutan’s agriculture sector, ensuring food security, environmental sustainability, and economic prosperity for the country.
RSPN has been strengthening farmer’s capacity on climate-smart agricultural techniques to assist farmers to adapt to the changing environment. These initiatives focuses on environmentally friendly and sustainable farming techniques through promotion of sustainable land management practices, and providing support for livelihood diversification such as climate resilient vegetable and crop seeds and fruit trees, polyhouse, landscape-based farm machineries, basic post-harvest facilities, etc., which can lower greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions while strengthening crops’ resistance to climate-related stressors.
