Climate change is one of the most pressing challenges facing humanity today. Rising
temperatures, changing rainfall patterns, increased frequency of extreme weather events,
glacial retreat, biodiversity loss, and water scarcity are already affecting ecosystems,
livelihoods, and economies around the world. Developing countries, particularly those with
fragile mountain ecosystems and climate-sensitive communities, are among the most
vulnerable to these impacts.
Recognizing the urgent need to support adaptation efforts in vulnerable countries, the
Adaptation Fund was established to finance concrete projects and programmes that help
communities adapt to the adverse effects of climate change. Since its inception, the Fund has
become a key global financing mechanism for climate adaptation, supporting locally driven and
country-owned initiatives that strengthen resilience and reduce climate risks.
As an accredited National Implementing Entity (NIE), the Royal Society for Protection of Nature
(RSPN) is now positioned to directly access Adaptation Fund resources and support climate-
resilient development initiatives in Bhutan.
