Introduction

Ecotourism holds special significance for Bhutan, perfectly aligning with the nation’s strong commitment to environmental conservation and sustainable development. It plays a vital role in safeguarding the country’s rich natural resources while creating meaningful economic opportunities for local communities. Bhutan’s rich cultural heritage is intertwined with its pristine natural landscapes, making ecotourism a bridge that connects visitors to the nation’s timeless traditions and vibrant living culture. By experiencing Bhutan’s pristine nature and engaging with its communities, visitors help safeguard fragile ecosystems, support conservation efforts, and honor a way of life that thrives in harmony with nature.

 

Since 2004, RSPN has been a pioneer in promoting community-based ecotourism, beginning in the stunning Gangtey-Phobjikha Valley, expanding to Haa in 2019, and further spreading across the WBH Conservation Landscape. The initiative offers visitors an authentic and immersive experience of Bhutan’s breathtaking natural beauty and rich cultural heritage. By supporting village homestays, nature trails, and campsites, and equipping local communities with skills in hospitality, guiding, and nature interpretation, RSPN fosters sustainable livelihoods that safeguard both the environment and traditional ways of life for generations to come.
