In collaboration with the Local Government, the Royal Society for Protection of Nature (RSPN) has successfully implemented 15 Rural Water Supply Schemes (RWSS) across the White-bellied Heron (WBH) landscape.
To strengthen the long-term sustainability of these schemes, watercaretakers from Gubji, Lungkha, and Tsekha under Punakha District, and Matalungchu, Wangjokha, Thangoo, and Zawa-Jarogang under Wangduephodrang District participated in a week-long training on Water System Operation and Management.
The training focused on:
Proper system operation.
Preventive maintenance.
Safeguarding water quality.
Strengthening water resource management.
Improving record-keeping and reporting.
Enhancing community service and communication.
Ensuring long-term sustainability.
A total of 15 participants (10 male and 5 female), including water caretakers and community focal persons, attended the training. The sessions were facilitated by experts from the Water and Sanitation Division under the Department of Infrastructure Development (#DoID) and coordinated by RSPN.
Together, we are building stronger systems and empowering communities for safe and reliable water access.
This activity is part of the IKI Project, “Developing Ecosystem-based Solutions for Managing Biodiversity Landscapes in Bhutan,” funded by the BMUV and co-funded by the MAVA Foundation and RSPN.
