Meet Ap Penjor, a decade old in supporting conservation of White-bellied Heron

It was in 2010, Ap Penjor was introduced to Local Conservation Support Group initiated by RSPN for engaging local community to support the conservation of White-bellied Heron. Since then, he has been engaging actively helping RSPN in conservation of the rare bird, White-bellied Heron.

Today, he is living legend to share the historical records of heron, and how distribution and population patterns have changed along the Harachhu. More than keeping records of heron in the area, his charismatic means of communication helped him advocating people the importance of conserving heron in his village.

Except few occasional sightings of heron in the area, there is no nesting record as of today. Earlier from 2013 -2015, there used to be a couple of heron even found nesting in the area. However, consecutive occurrence of forest fires and floods led to complete avoidance of nest.

He is from Rukha. The place famously tagged for producing smoked fish in Bhutan.
