“A creative and effective institute”

Royal Society for Protection of Nature 20 January, 2011 – The royal society for protection of nature (RSPN) conservation efforts was rewarded when they were recognised as a creative and effective institute by MacArthur foundation among 11 organisations in six countries.

RSPN will receive USD 350,000 as an award prize to proceed in its tradition of encouraging creativity and building effective institutions to help ensure their sustainability.

The officiating chief executive officer of RSPN, Tshering Lham said that criteria were in field of conservation, where they were able to bring larger impact in conserving nature using less money.

According to the MacArthur foundation, the recipient organisation’s mission is to protect biodiversity in the country.

Tshering Lham said that they would use the cash prize in institutional development, and to develop a resource centre, since Bhutan has a scattered resource system. “We want to create a hub of resources, where people, who are interested in environmental studies, will get access to all information from one centre,” she said.

She said that the centre would have an online library that can provide the people with journals regarding the environment.
