RSPN Bhutan in collaboration with Jigme Singye Wangchuck National Park, DoFPS marked World Environment Day 2026 with the students and teachers of Singye Namgyel School in Wangdue Phodrang, bringing together young minds to celebrate nature and strengthen environmental awareness.

Under this year’s theme, “Climate Action,” the celebration emphasized the urgent need for collective efforts to address climate change and protect the ecosystems that sustain life. Climate change is increasingly affecting rivers, forests, and biodiversity, posing significant challenges to many species, including the critically endangered White-bellied Heron.

As one of the world’s rarest birds, the White-bellied Heron depends on healthy river systems and intact forest habitats for its survival. Changes in rainfall patterns, extreme weather events, and habitat degradation associated with climate change threaten the fragile ecosystems upon which this iconic species relies.

Through educational activities and interactive discussions, students learned how climate action begins with everyday choices of protecting forests, conserving water, reducing waste, and caring for nature. The event highlighted the important role that young people can play in building a climate-resilient future while contributing to the conservation of Bhutan’s unique biodiversity.

By celebrating World Environment Day in remote communities, RSPN continues to inspire the next generation to take action for the environment and work together to secure a future where both people and wildlife can thrive.
