Ms. Karma Lodhen Wangmo is currently the In-Charge of the Black-necked Crane Education Center under the Royal Society for Protection of Nature (RSPN), where she also serves as a Naturalist. She has a strong background in conservation biology, having earned her Master of Science in Conservation Biology from the College of Natural Resources, Royal University of Bhutan.
Her career began as an voluntary Assistant Lecturer at Sherubtse College, where she provided comprehensive teaching to Life Science students. She later gained experience in conservation and research through internships with the Royal Society for Protection of Nature, contributing to projects such as mapping threats to the White-bellied Heron and participating in nationwide population surveys. Her role as an Assistant Enterprise Development Officer at Bhutan Livestock Development Corporation Limited further strengthened her ability to collaborate with stakeholders and promote conservation-based initiatives.
With extensive experience in research, education, and community engagement, she has actively participated in organizing conservation outreach programs, including crane festivals and environmental awareness campaigns. She has also undertaken fieldwork in fish sampling and water quality assessments for hydropower projects.
In addition to her professional contributions, she has attended various trainings and conferences, enhancing her expertise in conservation and sustainable resource management. Her work has resulted in significant contributions to research, including publications on species abundance and environmental associations in Bhutan and other publications.
