The World Environment Day (WED) 2011 was successfully celebrated in Paro among the dignitaries from the UN, Environmental organizations, Dzongkhag officials, teachers, students and hundreds of public.
The Chief Guest His Excellency Dasho Paljor J. Dorji, Advisor to the National Environment Commission remarked that under the dynamic leadership of His Majesty the Fourth King, Bhutan has been recognized as the “Champion of the earth” in environmental conservation and all Bhutanese have played their role in it and this spirit has to continue.
The Chief Guest thanked all schools who have worked hard to prepare this wonderful exhibition on FOREST and he commented that there is a lot of things people could learn from this exhibition. He also extensively interacted with students and teachers and even shared his thoughts and wisdoms among students and teachers. The Chief Guest planted and other dignitaries planted trees in the Children’s Park which in the heart of Paro town.
Hundreds of people have enjoyed listening to speeches and WED message read by students, group songs on environmental backgrounds and dances by students. The very interactive and informative exhibition on different themes has educated students, guests and public in general.
With very good support from the dzongkhag administration in Paro and the schools, the World Environment Day was a successful event celebrated for the people.
