Khotokha and Bumdeling wetlands listed as Wetlands of International Importance
Khotokha and Bumdeling wetlands are listed as Wetlands of International Importance. The two wetlands were designated as Wetlands of International Importance by RAMSAR Secretariat on 7th May 2012
The two sites are now included in the List of Wetlands of International Importance established by article 2.1. of the Ramsar Convention. Bumdeling is designated as Site No. 2032 and Khotokha as Site No. 2033. The two wetlands are important wintering habitats of the Black-necked Cranes (Grus nigricollis). The Watershed Management Division (WMD), Department of Forest and Park Services, MoAF intends to develop management plan for conservation and wise use of these wetlands in the near future.
In the case of Phobjikha, WMD, has already conducted 2nd round of consultative meeting with the public in mid November 2012. WMD is following up on Ramsar Information Sheet for Phobjikha.
Bhutan is 161st Contracting Party in the Ramsar Convention.
