Her Majesty Gyaltsuen launches Jigme Khesar Environmental Research Fund (JKERF)

The Jigme Khesar Environmental Research Fund (JKERF) is an initiative of the Royal Patron of RSPN, Her Majesty Gyaltsuen Jetsun Pema Wangchuck, Queen of Bhutan. The fund is being launched with two simultaneous activities:

1. Establishment of the Fund

JKER Fund will be established in a progressive manner. The initial target for the fund is One million US Dollars.

2. Call for research proposals for 2013

Individuals in institutions within Bhutan are encouraged to apply. A total of five research grants are available for the year 2013. Each research grant shall not exceed Nu. 100,000 (one hundred thousand).

Application for the grant shall be in the form of a research proposal in the required format.

1. Summary: In about 200 words, provide an abstract of the research including statement of the problem or research gap, theoretical framework of the study, objectives, methodology and study area.
2. Background to the research: Describe the context of the research in terms of what has already been done. Identify the gap that the study proposes to address. This may be in the form of hypothesis or research question emanating from a good literature review. State the importance of the research.
3. Proposed Research: Describe the research activity in a rational and logical manner. State the purpose or objectives of the study and describe the various components of the study including methodology or tools to be engaged for data collection and analysis. What is the duration of the study? Include a workplan for the entire study.
4. Budget: Provide a breakdown of the funds proposed with justification. The grant fund does not support remuneration of the principle researcher.
